PURPOSE:To obtain a work roll for cold rolling made of forged steel excellent in machinability and mirror-finish characteristics by applying an electroslag remelting(ESR) process to a steel in which compositional limit value, particularly the amount of titanium carbonitride, is controlled. CONSTITUTION:The roll having a composition which consists of, by weight, 0.7-1.6% C, 0.15-1.6% Si, 0.15-1.6% Mn, <=2% Ni, 1.5-8.0% Cr, <=1% Mo, <=0.5% V, and the balance iron with inevitable impurities and in which the upper limit of the content of Ti existing in the form of titanium carbonitride is regulated to 0.0030% is manufactured by an ESR process. By adopting this ESR process, titanium carbonitride content can be effectively reduced and, as a result, the machinability and mirror-finish characteristics of the above roll can be improved. |
