PURPOSE: To facilitate the replacement of multidirectional cutting insert made of cemented carbide, by forming the cutting insert by intersecting the top surface of the front cutting-edge with the front circumferential surface and by intersecting the side cutting edges both with the top surface and with two side circumferential surfaces. CONSTITUTION: A multidirectional cutting tool insert 1 has an upper surface 2a and a lower surface 2b, and is clamped between parallel surfaces 3a and 3b corresponding to the jaws 4, 5 formed in the tool holder body, and the surfaces 3a and 3b define the housing slot or housing the insert 1. The housing slot is connected to rearward slit 7. This preparation permits the elasticity required for clamping. The insert 1 is securely clamped in the inside of the housing slot by means of a tightening screw 8. The surfaces 2a and 2b form V-shaped surfaces, and a projected V-shaped rib formed by the corresponding jaw surfaces 3a and 3b is inserted into the V-shaped surfaces, and the lateral movement of the insert with regard to an insert holder 6 can be prevented. |
