A turbine (1) has a control and regulating device with a pump (31) whose pressure varies as the square of the volume delivered by the pump or as the square of the rotational speed (n<2>) of the turbine (1). The hydraulic sequential piston arrangement comprising a preliminary control piston (41) and a control piston (5) for regulating the rotation speed of the turbine is supplied by a single pump (31). A compact, space-saving construction is thereby achieved. The turbine is suitable for use as a motor or drive in applications other than the generation of electricity, for example for cable winches.
