The gripper 1 comprises an elongated body 11, with a longitudinal slot 12, on either side of which extend two wings 13 connected to one another by means of a part 14 forming a fixed jaw for the cable 3 to be clamped. A flattened piece 19 mounted in the slot 12 forms, on one of its ends 21, a movable jaw for the cable 3. At the opposite end, elastic washers 23 act on the piece 19 in order to push it towards the part 14, these washers being maintained under compression by a cap 27 fitting onto a head 16 of the body 11 and connected to the other elements of the suspension. This gripper 1, designed to pass easily over pulleys, is used in overhead-cable load-transport installations. <IMAGE>
