The decorative pattern and information on an identity card made of a sheet of synthetic material (I) consists of sublimatable colouring agents (II) dissolved in (I) and bound to it. - Pref. (I) is a polyester, esp. poly(butylene terephthalate) in sheet form about 0.3-1.5 mm thick and pigmented so different information can be shown on either side. (II), which penetrate into the sheet by up to 0.1mm at most, are sublimatable at 160-220 deg.C and atmospheric pressure, and are typically nitro, arylamine, azo and anthraquinone class dyes.
