The invention relates to a hollow stud, disposed in a vehicle tyre. In the flange 12 of the rivet part elevations 15 have been configured in such a way that, when the stud is in a state of rest, those regions which are in contact with its rubber 20 are substantially smaller than the total area of a corresponding region in the stud. The elevations 15 are disposed on the outer edge of the rivet flange 12 and are directed towards the sides and upwards from the rivet head 14. When the stud is in a state of rest and during the first contact between the rivet prong 13 and the road surface, the stud is arranged to rest against the tyre rubber 20 on the said elevations 15 and on the edge region of the flange 18 of the sleeve part of the stud 17 in such a way that the head 14 of the rivet part 11 is free from the tyre rubber 20, protected by the sleeve part 17. The region of contact A1 of the elevations 15 with the tyre rubber 20 is situated in the region of the outer outermost edge of the elevations 15 in such a way that when the stud 10 comes into contact with the road, the line of action of the force F acting upon the stud runs between the centreline of the stud 10 and the region of contact A1 of the elevations, the supporting force acting upon the tyre rubber 20 of the elevations 15 being arranged to produce a torque which holds the stud 10 upright. <IMAGE>
