Novel tricyclic 1H-imidazole-5-carboxylic acid derivatives of formula wherein X is a radical of formula A is a C1-C5alkanediyl or a C5-C7cycloalkanediyl radical; and Y is O, S(O)m, NR<9> or CH2; the salts and stereochemically isomeric forms thereof, which compounds are herbicides; herbicidal compositions containing such compounds as active ingredient and methods of preparing said compounds.
