A heat accumulator comprises two or more contiguous accumulator sections (1) each consisting of several superimposed channels (2) subdivided into channel sections (4) in which the heat-transfer medium is conveyed. Channels (5) located between and perpendicular to these channels, which are also subdivided into channel sections (7), receive the heat-accumulator material. The accumulator sections are switched on in sequence to admit the flow of the heat-transfer medium.
