Dihydropyridine derivatives of the formula: <CHEM> where R is aryl or heteroaryl, R<1> and R<2> are each alkyl or methoxyethyl, X is O or S, Y is -CH=CH- or -C IDENTICAL C-, and Z is -CHR<5>OH, -CONH2, -CO2R<6> or -CH2NR<3>R<4>, where R<3> and R<4> are H or alkyl or together form a 5- or 6-membered ring, R<5> is H, alkyl or aryl, and R<6> is H or alkyl, are anti-ischaemic and antihypertensive agents. All except compounds in which Y is -C IDENTICAL C- and Z is -CO2alkyl are novel. |
