摘要 PURPOSE: To provide the stereoscopic images of less attenuation amount without enlarging constitution by turning image light corresponding to left and right eyes to the circularly polarized images of an opposite direction by the variable polarization body of required constitution and making them be incident on spectacles provided with the liquid crystal of prescribed optical characteristics. CONSTITUTION: The image light of a wavelength Lo corresponding to the left and right eyes alternately generated from a cathode-ray tube 102 is circularly polarized by the circularly polarizing plate 108 of the variable polarization body 107 and turned on and off synchronized with the cathode-ray tube 102. It is optically neutral when turned on. When turned off, it is turned to the circularly polarized images of mutually opposite polarization directions by a nematic liquid crystal line for rotating circularly polarized light for 90 degrees, one circularly polarized light is reflected, the other is transmitted and then, they are made made incident on the spectacles 118 provided with cholesteric liquid crystals 120R and 120L for which refractive indexes (n) and (p) satisfy (n)×(p)-(-Lo ). By the small-sized constitution without the need of a shutter or a color filter, etc., this three-dimensional display device of less attenuation amount capable of obtaining single-color or multi-color stereoscopic images and being used for an air pilot or the like is attained.
