PURPOSE:To prevent corrosion in a lead part, to increase reliability of a battery, and to lengthen the life by closely arranging a sulfuric acid absorbing material in a lead part which is exposed in the gas phase within a container. CONSTITUTION:A sulfuric acid absorbing material 13 such as a mixture of polyethylene powder and imide resin powder is arranged in the part exposed in a gas phase part 12 of a plate group welding ledges 6, 7. Sulfuric acid in a container is supplied to the plate group welding leadges 6, 7 through the sulfuric acid absorbing material 13, and the vicinities of the plate group welding ledges 6, 7 are kept in a strong acidic state. Lead sulfate produced by reaction of lead oxide formed in the plate group ledges 6, 7 in oxygen absorbing reaction with sulfuric acid does not dissolve and corrosion of the plate group ledges 6, 7 is prevented. |
