The colour CRT comprises a glass envelope having a rectangular display window, and a pattern of phosphors luminescing in different colours, arranged to be visible through the window. A system of electron guns generates electron beams directed onto the pattern. A rectangular shadow mask includes a mask sheet having an upright edge, an area containing a pattern of apertures, and a blind edge between the area and the upright edge in which the blind edge comprises weakened portions. The pattern of apertures is formed by rows of elongated apertures.
