Grinding disc with high strength flanges - preventing disc bursting at high rotational speeds

A grinding disc (esp. of cubic boron nitride or diamond) is fixed between high strength flanges to which stresses caused by the centrifugal force are transferred to prevent disc bursting at high rotational speeds. Pref. shear stresses are transferred from the disc body to the flanges by an interposed binder pref. contg. a high elasticity modulus granular filler of similar shape and dimensions to those of the grains in the grinding disc. ADVANTAGE - Bursting of ceramic-bonded cubic boron nitride or diamond grinding discs at high rotational speeds is prevented.
