The invention relates to a method for the relative assignment of sample quantity supplier and sample vessel and a device for carrying it out. By means of a method of this type, using coded sample vessels in a fixed arrangement in a detection magazine, a relative assignment is ensured between sample quantity supplier and sample vessel, without detection of the position of the sample vessel in the detection magazine being necessary. According to the method, this is achieved, inter alia, by moving coded sample vessels without alignment in an arbitrary fixed arrangement into, preferably, a standardised detection magazine, at a first location, and reading at a second location the coding of a sample vessel in an arbitrary position, transferring the sample from a specific sample quantity supplier into the identified sample vessel and assigning the coding of the filled sample vessel to the identification of the specific sample quantity supplier. For carrying out the method, a device is provided in which, inter alia, the tripods (7a) are tilted transversely to the row of sample vessels, so that, seen in the longitudinal direction of the sample vessel, an axial offset (H) of the sample vessels is produced between similarly-positioned sample vessels (1a, 1b; 1b, 1c) of adjacent tripods, in the region of which offset a reading device (5) is driven, unhampered by the sample vessel of the adjacent tripod (Fig. 5). <IMAGE>
