<p>PURPOSE:To enable a large volume production of viruses for controlling insect pest and a variety of useful substances by subjecting virus-infected insect cells originating from Spodoptera literalis to spinner culture in a liquid medium. CONSTITUTION:CLS-79 line, insect cells originating from Spodoptera literalis is cultured in fetal calf serum, the culture mixture is diluted to select the cells of low association whereby insect cells originating from Spodoptera leteralis such as CLS-79-C7 (FERM No.10555) is obtained, which is suitable for spinner culture in a liquid medium in which the cells substantially float and proliferate in suspension. These cells are infected with a recombinant virus having a gene which is obtained by substituting a part of polyhedrin gene in virus DNA such as SLNP virus of Spodoptera ritula with a structural gene for a useful substance and proliferated. Thus, a large amount of desired virus or useful substance can be produced.</p> |
