High strength silicon carbide body - contg. dispersed acicular silicon carbide particles
摘要
A sintered Si carbide body with a relative density of at least 95% consists of a matrix of non-acicular Si carbide particles and 5-40 wt.% dispersed acicular Si carbide particles of mean length 2-50 microns and mean dia. 0.1-1.0 micron. Prodn. of the sintered body involves (a) producing a mixt. of Si starting material, C starting material, non-acicular Si carbide particles and acicular Si carbide particles; and (b) moulding the mixt. and sintering at 14.50-2100 deg.C and 50-200 MPa. USE/ADVANTAGE - The sintered body is used as a high temp. constructional element (e.g. for gas turbines and diesel engines) and as a cutting tool. It has excellent mechanical strength (e.g. toughness) at room temp. to high temps.
