CONTROL OF FLASH SPINNING CELL ATMOSPHERE TEMPERATURE

A flash spinning process is disclosed wherein a polymer/solvent composition is sprayed from one or more dies onto a moving support (3) within a spin cell (15). The temperature within the spin cell is controlled by spraying solvent into the spin cell atmosphere whereby evaporation of the solvent reduces the temperature within the spin cell. The improvement is that the spin cell temperature is accurately controlled to within 48 DEG to 52 DEG C as required to enhance visual properties of the spun sheet and to maximize spin pack life.
