PURPOSE:To improve characteristics of radiation resistance by using quartz glass containing a fluorine added to a clad part and a trace amount of GeO2 added to a core part in optical fiber having the core part and the clad part surrounding the core part. CONSTITUTION:The abovementioned optical fiber is formed from quartz glass having a core part and a clad part surrounding the core part. The aforementioned core part is composed of quartz glass containing <1wt.% GeO2. The aforementioned clad part is composed of quartz glass, having a lower refractive index than that of the core part and containing fluorine. |
