PURPOSE: To reduce the number of seal leaking passages by mounting a plurality of long thin parts and a load element composed of a flexible ribbon inserted in longitudinal grooves of the parts into a groove of a pipe element outer periphery and a groove of a holding member cavity of a pipe joint device. CONSTITUTION: One pipe element 10 to be connected in an end-to-end relationship is inserted into a cavity of a cylindrical holding member 12. A load element 17c are attached to a pair of circumferential grooves 18b, 18a, and the pipe element 10 is fixed to the holding member 12. The load element 17c includes long thin parts 42 fitted on a flexible ribbon 43. The bottoms 44 of the parts 42 are coincided with the groove 18b of the pipe element 10. A longitudinal T-shaped groove is provided on the bottom 44, and the ribbon 43 is inserted. The parts 42 are easily slid along the ribbon 43 and housed in the groove. In a pipe joint device 9, the number of the seal leaking passages is reduced by using the load element, and the required number of varied kinds of pipe elements is reduced.
