A prior art device has electromechanical transmission means with an adjustable coupler between the accelerator pedal and the throttle valve as well as mechanical transmission means. The drawback of the prior art device is that the mechanical transmission means must include an overrun spring to compensate the travel. In the device of the invention, however, a double-acting coupler (80) can link the accelerator pedal (2) to the throttle valve (52) via the mechanical or electromechanical transmission means depending on the setting. The device is especially suitable for motor vehicles with a slip and/or travelling speed regulator.
