PURPOSE: To ensure sufficient mechanical strength and tight fitting of an insert in a tip body by monitoring the depth and caulking action force of a caulking groove simultaneously and varying the caulking action force as soon as the depth reaches a preset maximum value. CONSTITUTION: The dimensions of a caulking groove that decide tight fitting of an insert 2 into a tip body 1 is determined by the simultaneous monitor of the depth and caulking action force of the caulking groove in a caulking process. When the depth of the caulking groove reaches a preset minimum value, the caulking action force is desirably increased while a caulking punch 4 is sluggish, which can offer the preset caulking groove depth from the sluggish punch 4. When the caulking groove depth reaches a preset maximum value, the caulking action force is desirably decreased, which prolongs the using time of the punch 4 to save its replacement time.
