An opacifying pigment for filling paper comprising particles obtainable by flocculating hydrous kaolin clay in the presence of water with cationic polyelectrolyte flocculant in amount in excess of that necessary to achieve flocculation but insufficient to redeflocculate said kaolin, said flocculated particles of clay when dry having scattering values at 577 nm higher than that of said clay flocculated with minimal amount of said polyelectrolyte. |
