A composition and method for detackifying paint spray booth water containing particles from paint spray is disclosed which uses a reaction product of an aldehyde with either a urea or an aminotriazine or both,and at least one of: (i) an anionic hydrolyzed polyacrylamide having a molecular weight less than 15 million; (ii) a cationic hydrolyzed polyacrylamide having a molecular weight less than 7 million, or (iii) a nonionic hydrolyzed polyacrylamide having a molecular weight between 12 and 15 million. f
