PURPOSE:To improve charging performance by dissolving a binder into a solvent while heating, cooling it to obtain powder of the binder and active material, kneading them to make paste, applying the paste on both surfaces of a supporting body and drying, and dipping the product in a specified caustic alkali solution. CONSTITUTION:A binder agent is heat dissolved into a solvent and cooled to obtain the binder agent in sol or gel condition containing the binder agent in particulates. The binder agent in this condition and powder of active material mainly consisting of cadmium oxide powder are kneaded to make paste. The paste obtained is applied on both surfaces of a supporting body and dried. The product is immersed into a water solution of 1.0 normal or weaker caustic alkali. The cadmium negative electrode of paste state obtained in this way is further charged in water solution of caustic alkali or alkali salt or their mixture, water rinsed and dried. Oxygen absorbing ability and hydrogen generation suppressing ability after storage are improved in this way. |
