PURPOSE:To make the thickness of a nickel plating layer uniform by impregnating an active material with water which active material comprises mainly a cadmium compound of a hoop shape applied on an electricity conductive core member, and subjecting the active material to electrolytic plating under the condition of the active material containing water. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene glycol solution of polyvinyl alcohol is added to powder of cadmium oxide and mixed and kneaded to make paste. The paste is applied on a hoop shaped core steel plate plated with nickel having an opening and dried to obtain an electrode plate. The electrode plate is immersed in a solution of phenoxy ascetic acid in the solvent of water and ethylene glycol, dried, impregnated with water, and subjected to electrolytic plating in a plating liquid containing nickel sulfate and boric acid to form a nickel plating layer on the surface. After the plating the product is immersed in a solution of magnesium sulfate, formed in potassium hydroxide, water rinsed, and dried to obtain a negative electrode plate. In this way the cadmium negative electrode of a paste type is provided with improved absorption on the negative electrode of oxygen generated at the time of charging. |
