Weft supply to air and water-jet looms - utilises equipment to determine number of weft breaks and their causes

Air or water jet looms take weft from supply reel. Weft breaks are assessed from reel dimensions in conjunction with tension on the weft. The reel is measured progressively during unwinding, and the tension is measured constantly. At the same time the number of breaks is recorded. The reel of weft (114) is pref. mounted on a stand (114) which has a spindle (102). When unwinding, the yarn reduces the dia. of the reel, which is monitored by the equipment (111). This may consist of semiconductors and photo-electric devices (113). It is also possible to determine the reduction by taking time and lengths of yarn on the reel. Alternatively, the weight of the reel, with the gradual redn. in wt. as it unwinds, can be used as data. USE - To equip the loom with apparatus to determine the cause of weft breaks. The data provided by the appts. may be used to take precautions in order to avoid weft breaks.
