Brightness of a silicate fluorescent material activated with Mn is improved by heating the fluorescent powder at least twice (3-5 times), in air at about 2/3 of the mfr. temp., i.e. between 750 - 1000 deg.C, (800-850 deg.C), with intermediate cooling. Pref. application is to a Mn-activated Zn orthosilicate fluorescent material. ADVANTAGE - Efficiency of fluorescent screen is improved.
