PURPOSE:To obtain the above fiber having an excellent optical transmission characteristic, heat resistance and flexibility by using the reaction cured matter of a resin compsn. essentially consisting of ladder type polymethyl siloxane as a clad material and heat-treating the same. CONSTITUTION:The resin compsn. essentially consisting of the ladder type polymethyl siloxane is applied on the outer periphery of a glass fiber 1 which constitutes a core to form a coating layer 2. This coating layer 2 is cured to form the fiber with the polymer clad layer. After this fiber is taken up, the fiber is subjected further to a heating treatment to sufficiently progress the crosslinking of the resin compsn. Cracks are, therefore, not generated in the clad layer in spite of long-term use in high-temp. environment. The fiber which is excellent in all of the strength, optical transmission characteristic, heat resistance, and flexibility is obtd. |
