A process for improving the resistance to mechanical damage of an image formed by coloured hydrophilic colloid layer relief parts on a permanent support or of an image present in a hydrophilic colloid layer on a permanent support and controlling the visual appearance of said image which comprises the transfer to said image of layers (i), (ii) and (iii) from a stripping film material consisting of a temporary support coated with a layer assemblage of (i) an undermost 1 to 15 mu m thick water-insoluble layer essentially consisting of a nitrocellulose having a substitution degree (DS) in the range of 2 to 2.5, or essentially consisting of a mixture of such a nitrocellulose with an ethyl cellulose having a substitution degree (DS) in the range of 2.2 to 2.6, wherein the weight ratio of the nitrocellulose to the ethyl cellulose is in the range from 60/40 to 95/5, (ii) a 0.1 to 1.5 mu m thick layer of a mixture of gelatin, maleic acid and a nitrocellulose as defined above, wherein the gelatin is present in a weight percentage of at least 40, the maleic acid is present in a weight percentage between 2.5 and 20, and the nitrocellulose is present in a weight percentage between 20 and 40, and (iii) a 0.1 to 5 mu m thick adhesive top layer becoming sticky when moistened with water and containing unhardened gelatin up to at least 25 % by weight and dispersed polymer particles that have a glass transition temperature (Tg) lower than 0 DEG C and improve the sticking power of layer (iii) towards a moist gelatin layer.
