A compressed image data transmission device is provided with: a compression unit which reads one frame of captured image data from an image-capturing element in a plurality of parts and performs compression processing on the captured image data to generate compressed image data; a determination unit which determines whether a compressed image data occupancy ratio is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold value or not, said compressed image data occupancy ratio indicating the ratio of a region of a transmission buffer in which the compressed image data is being stored to the available region thereof for storing the compressed image data; and a control unit which, when the compressed image data occupancy ratio is equal to or greater than the predetermined threshold value, causes the compression unit to terminate the reading of the captured image data. The control unit allows the image-capturing element to perform image capturing but does not allow the image-capturing element to perform the image capturing when the image-capturing element holds the captured image data that has not yet been read by the compression unit. The control unit allows the image-capturing element to perform the image capturing after there is no more of the captured image data in the image-capturing element that has not yet been read by the compression unit.
