PURPOSE:To obtain the title ink which is excellent in rapid driability and fixability and can give a highly dense clear recording excellent in water and light resistances by mixing water with a dye and/or a pigment and a plurality of specified compounds. CONSTITUTION:An ink to be used in an ink jet recorder in which a character or an image is recorded with a liquid ink, wherein water is mixed with a dye and/or a pigment (e.g. C.I Direct Black 19), a high-boiling lowly volatile water- soluble organic solvent) (e.g. glycerol and ethanol) and a water-soluble toluenesulfonamide (e.g. a compound of the formula).
