PURPOSE:To enable the paper remainder in an electrophotographic printer to be automatically discharged at high rate without causing adverse effects on the thermal fixing roller of the printer. CONSTITUTION:A printer 1 includes a RAM 403 wherein data on the speed at which recording papers S required for fixing toner images pass through a fixing roller 31 is stored according to the surface temperature of the fixing roller 31 and an MPU 40 which controls the speed of the recording papers according to the speed data stored in the RAM 403: even if the temperature of the fixing roller 31 is at fixing temperature or lower, paper remainder can be automatically discharged without causing adverse effects on the fixing roller 31 simply by discharging the paper remainder according to the speed data stored in the RAM 403.
