A dispersion of pigment colorant particles in a plasticizer, preferably for polyvinyl butyral (PVB) resin, exposed to a level of ultrasonic energy sufficient to provide a predetermined light transmission and a mean pigment particle size less than 1 micron, the concentration of particles in the dispersion being less than required to obtain such transmission without exposure to ultrasonic energy. A process improving the color consistency of such a dispersion involves subjecting it to ultrasonic energy sufficient to maximize the chroma of the dispersion in that the chroma "a" or chroma "b" value of the treated dispersion does not change by more than one unit with further ultrasonic treatment. Also, colored, transparent, plasticized synthetic thermoplastic resin sheet, preferably polyvinyl butyral, and a process for its preparation which involves subjecting a dispersion of resin plasticizer and pigment colorants to a level of ultrasonic energy providing a chroma value in a laminate of said sheet with glass at between about 2 to 86 percent light transmission at a pigment concentration in the sheet which is less than the pigment concentration to provide such chroma value in a comparison laminate with glass wherein the sheet in the comparison laminate contained mechanically sheared pigment particles which had not been ultrasonically treated. Sheet color consistency is improved in that the ultrasonic exposure maximizes color strength (chroma), the chroma "a" or chroma "b" component of the treated dispersion not changing by more than one unit with further ultrasonic treatment. <IMAGE> |
