PURPOSE: To improve the shape of a faceplate for a cathode-ray tube which has the faceplate with 16×9 aspect ratio so that the shape meets various requests for a high quality television. CONSTITUTION: For the faceplate, ratio Rx/Ry is set to about 1.5-1.6 where Rx is equivalent curvature radius along a major axis and Ry is equivalent curvature radius along a manor axis, ratio RL/Rx is set to about 1.12-1.15 where RL is equivalent curvature radius along a major side, and ratio RL/Rs is set to about 1.30-1.36 where Rs is equivalent curvature radius along a manor side.
