The air intake device has a regulated main intake socket (6), with an associated part air load metering element (9), in a bypass. A sound-damping device (17) is located downstream of the metering element. The part load air flow determined by the metering element, is divided by the device into part flows. These part flows have a speed, which is lower than the discharge speed of the part flow coming from the metering element. The sound damping device has a chamber (12), downstream of the metering element. This has a volume, corresp. to a time-related max. partload air flow. The chamber has a wall (13) with openings (15,16). The complete cross section of the openings corresponds to at least 1.5 times the discharge profile (10) of the metering element. ADVANTAGE - Maintenance free, low-cost due to simple construction.
