A jewelry closure (2) includes a pair of magnetic closure members(6, 8) for magnetically engaging together and a mechanical closure (14, 16) which acts as a second closure or safety feature. One or both closure members (6, 8) includes a magnet (3, 7). A first closure member (6) of the pair is supported by a casing (4) which extends outwardly to receive the second closure member (8) for magnetic engagement of the members. A mechanical closure (14, 16) acts as a safety feature preventing the two members (6, 8) from being readily separated. The mechanical closure may include screw threaded portions (14, 16) on both the casing (4) and the second closure member (8) or may include a push-click mechanism (36, 38) on the casing (4) and second closure member (8). |
