The saw is for cross cutting of long panel-shaped workpieces (3). It has a transporter (1,2) for the workpieces, and a gantry (5) across it. This carries two saw units (9), with circular saw blades (10). These are driven in opposite directions, so that the front blade cuts from above for a precut, and the next blade cuts from below, for a finishing cut. The saw units are similar. Each is located on a program-controlled support (8), movable at right angles to the movement plane of the transporter. The saw unit for the precut is controlled to follow the top contours of the workpieces. During forward and return movement of the two saw units, the control functions of the two supports are changed over. USE/ADVANTAGE - Cutting of timbers for furniture.
