Compounds of the formula <CHEM> wherein E is O or S; G is A-Y-B-D, A-Y-D, A-D or D1 wherein A is a saturated C1-C14 alkylene of straight or branched chain cornfiguarion; Y is oxygen, sulfur, sulfinyl or sulfonyl; B is a saturated C1-C14 alkylene of straight or branched chain configuration; D is a C1-C4 saturated or unsaturated alkyl of straight or branched chain configuration, -CF3, -CHF2, -CH2F, or phenyl; and D1 is H, -CF3, -CHF2, -CH2F, -CH3 or phenyl. are useful as inhibitors of cholesterol biosynthesis and as agents which lower total serum cholesterol in patients in need thereof. |
