A machine for applying a string (1) to a bottle (7) by means of a string supply device (17) can be automated if the string supply device (17) is placed between a store of string (18) which provides the strings (1) in an ordered manner and a string mounting position (15), and if the advance of the bottles is synchronised with the supply and mounting rate of the strings (1)(Fig.1).
