The invention relates to a recombinant Avipox virus derived from an attenuated Avipox virus strain and containing, in a non-essential portion of its genome, at least one DNA sequence encoding all or part of a protein heterologous to the Avipox virus, the non-essential portion of the genome being made up of an intergenic region of TIRs (terminal inverted repeat). The invention also relates to the culture of cells infected with this virus, to vaccines containing this recombinant Avipox virus and to the use of this virus as a vector capable of expressing all or part of a protein heterologous to the virus.
