A method and apparatus for handover are provided. The method includes: receiving measurement information reported by a UE, the measurement information including the Reference Signal Received Quality RSRQ and the Reference Signal Received Power RSRP of a number X of cells; the number X of cells include a number Y of cells belonging to the source cell group which the UE is in and a number Z of cells not belonging to the source cell group; determining, on the basis of the measurement information and a preset handover condition, whether the UE needs to be handed over to another cell group; when it is determined that the UE needs to be handed over to another cell group, determining a destination cell group for the UE, and handing the UE over from the source cell group to the destination cell group. By the above technical solution, the times of handover event triggered by the UE can be reduced, the signaling overhead of core network can be lowered, and user communication quality is also improved. |
