A boot retainer 42 for use in a constant velocity universal joint 20 includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced radially inwardly extending resilient tabs 60. The tabs 60 snap into a groove 58 in an outer peripheral surface of an outer race 26 to provide a positive abutment, properly positioning the retainer 42 and the boot 34 relative to the outer race 26. The boot may be secured to the retainer remote from the outer race 26, fig 1, and adjacent the tabs (Figs 3 and 5). The tabs may be at the distal end of the retainer (Fig 3). <IMAGE> |
