The invention relates to a process for impregnating pine wood veneers by means of impregnating agent and subsequent drying of the impregnated veneers. As a result of impregnating solution being applied by rolling or spraying merely to the surface of the veneer, the wood veneer 11 which is lathed or cut out from the wood in question is impregnated, and this whilst the veneer is still damp and before its bordered pits have become closed, so that the impregnating agent, through diffusion, is distributed in the veneer through its cell walls, after which the veneer is heat-dried such that the moisture evaporates and the bordered pits of the cell walls are sealed. The present invention utilizes the fact that the cells of the lathe timber, as a result of the bordered pits, remain open for a certain period after lathing and allow highly concentrated impregnating solution of certain types, through chemiosmatic overpressure, to diffuse in to a surface depth of a few mm throughout the wood. The entire cell structure is left intact without mechanical damage and the agent is then fixed under heat in a subsequent drying process. A laminate of these veneers allows all the mechanical properties of the wood material to be preserved, whilst at the same time ensuring that the impregnation concentration is uniform throughout the whole of the cross section. As a result of this method, impregnated laminate is able to be made from otherwise unusable wood. Pressure-impregnated or surface- impregnated wood demonstrates inwardly diminishing concentration, even for normally impregnable wood types. <IMAGE> |
