A half hose knitted from non-elastomeric yarns has a leg support portion (17) comprising a rib knitted fabric having sufficient elasticity to support the leg portion during wear. The support portion may comprise regions (19, 20) of different rib structures, eg 1 x 1 and 2 x1 respectively, which may be separated by a stretch resistant zone (30) eg of plain fabric.
