A thermoplastics connector, for use in connecting a thermoplastics branch pipe to thermoplastics pipes of a main pipeline when the branch pipe and the main pipeline pipes have substantially the same diameter, comprises a tubular through coupler 1 provided with a socket 2 at each of two opposite ends thereof. Each socket has a coil 9 of electrical resistance heating wire and the coils 9 are electrically interconnected. The connector also includes a tubular spigot 3 extending from and in flow communication with an intermediate region 4 of the coupler between sockets 2. The outer diameter of spigot 3 is substantially the same as the inner diameter of sockets 2 to enable spigot 3 to be connected to the branch pipe by a conventional double socket electrofusion fitting. In order to prevent belling of the connector when under pressure in use, the wall thickness of the connector is locally increased outwardly in a part 4A of the connector at and adjacent the junction between the spigot 3 and the intermediate region 4 of the coupler. <IMAGE> |
