The multiple piston pump operates in several stages. Each of the stages of the piston pump is arranged with a piston-cylinder unit positioned so that the outlet of the previous stage, and the inlet of the next stage, are directly adjacent, or even form a single valve unit, common to both stages. Each of the piston-cylinder assemblies (1,2) is square or rectangular in cross-section. The cylinders lie very close together and have the max. possible valve or port area (41,52) leading from one cylinder to the next.
