Catalysts for polymerization primarily of cis-1,4- butadiene in a hydrocarbon solvent consisting of a combination of: a) alkylaluminoxane and: b) a compound soluble in the hydrocarbon solvent for polymerization of a transition metal chosen from: Ti, Co, Ni, Nd, Pr, Gd, said combination being prepared in the presence of a hydrocarbon solvent containing butadiene.
