The invention concerns a method for generating visual information, in particular as a video signal. By means of the method a resultant picture area TKA is made up consisting of several picture elements. In addition it consists of at least two initial picture areas A, B, C which each comprise several picture elements KA for which there is essentially for each picture element in the initial picture area a stage defining code, which comprises the prioritizing information, consisting of at least two information parts. In the processing unit PY the prioritizing information of the picture elements is compared for at least two separate different initial picture areas and is selected according to a predetermined prioritization strategy on the basis of the comparison of the visual information which has been determined in the information part of the selected picture element KA to be displayed visually on a picture element KA of the resultant picture area TKA. <IMAGE>
