PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology in a motor control device that controls drive of a motor through vector control, the technology for reducing a current to be supplied to the motor through open loop control during a period where the rotation speed of the motor is low.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises a motor control part that, in an acceleration sequence at the start-up of a stepping motor, accelerates the motor through open loop control to a predetermined rotation speed ω_th at a relatively small first acceleration (a1*) (S101 to S103), and then switches to vector control (S104). The motor control part subsequently accelerates the stepping motor through vector control to a target rotation speed ω_tar at a relatively large second acceleration (a2*) (S105 to S106).
