PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably forming a high-quality metal carbide film on the surface of an object steel member for a long time, and a metal carbide film coated member formed by the method.SOLUTION: A piece or a pellet of an Al-Mg alloy of a Mg content of 1.2-93 mass% is added as a reductant into a bath of fused borax containing a metal compound for forming a carbide to reduce aluminum oxide remaining in the salt bath to aluminum and to reactivate the salt bath. There are provided a method for thus forming a carbide film of high purity, high hardness and high quality, and a member formed by the method.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
